What is your music background?

I've been producing electronic music since my early teens when I stumbled upon the 'tracker scene' through local BBS's. Since then, music has become my life and my obsession, and I spend most of my free time working on perfecting my skills. I've had several commercial releases, and a ton of releases through the 'netlabel' scene. On the PC I primarily use trackers (impulse tracker/modplug tracker) but have recently opened my mind to the 'next-generation' music tools that are now available.

How do you define your music?

I enjoy trying to do a little bit of everything in the musical spectrum, and I listen to a little bit of everything as well. My personal favorite is the hybrid combination of ambient/idm, something where lush melodies combine with harsh crunchy complex beatwork, like the interaction of ying and yang energy.

Where and when have you heard of Bhajis Loops?

I've always had an obsession with the concept of mobile music. In fact, my entire development of the character I call transient is based upon it, and my website/netlabel noisy vagabond is really geared towards this idea. The idea of being able to travel and compose, to take a hike, or a bike ride and find a great view and sit there and take it in, channeling that pure inspiration into music. I've even gone as far in the past as carrying a 15 lb. laptop on one of my many hiking trips on the Appalachian Trail for hundreds of miles (if I had only known of Bhajis Loops then!) just to compose music.

So, one day, I was on an irc chat room, and someone had posted a picture in the topic with the title 'l33t' next to it. When I clicked the link, a simple picture came up of a hand holding a PDA with a tracker running on it (I'm not even sure what program it was) but after that day the idea fascinated me so much I just had to get my hands on it. So in January of 2005, after aquiring a Palm OS device I began a search for a music program for it. My search ended indefinitely after finding the amazing program that is Bhajis Loops. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a program this advanced and useful would be available for a handheld.

Since then my life hasn't been the same, the ability to have my studio in my pocket at all times is both powerful and awesome, and it's really opened up my own creative potential.

What is your use of Bhajis Loops?

I use Bhajis' primarily as a mobile studio to compose complete songs. While, at the present time, I haven't played a live show since I've gotten Bhajis', I definitely plan to have it be my central piece of gear my next show. Also, the ability to export midi files, or .wav render patterns/songs is indispensable. If you'd like to just use it as a musical sketchbook to jot down ideas, or use it to compose your next epic symphony, the power to do so is all there in the palm of your hand. Users of program like fruityloops or cubase, or even you oldskool tracker heads will feel right at home.

What is your favourite feature?

Transient

I'd say, the automation and x/y pad is one of my favorite features. I like the depth of the automation and that it can be applied to every effect or instrument parameter. The many great effects, bitcrusher, delay, reverb, pitchshifter, bufferlock, this list goes on and on. I like the tightness of the interface, and how everything is easily accessed with just the stylus. The deepness of the instrument editor is enough to keep any knobtweaker satisfied. The ability to view either the 'piano roll' for melodies, or the 'grid view' for beats, and the many 'parameters' that can be applied to each note. The attention to detail is above and beyond and with each update my mouth drops open just a little bit more. Top it off with a friendly and accessible developer and you'll never look back.
