What is your music background?

I started taking piano lessons when I was 7 years old, during junior high school I have studied guitar for several years and more recently I have been focusing on composition and ornamentation.

My interest in playing electronic music began when my father took me to a King Crimson's concert at the Metropolitan theatre. I was astonished by the diversity of sounds coming from their guitars. It was just synthesis! At the end of the concert I approached to the stage to look at the pedals and processors they were using. For the next months I saved to buy my first guitar synthesizer. My father also listened to Brian Eno since I was a kid so, ambient and experimental electronica sound familiar to me.

How is the music scene in Mexico?

Beyond mainstream music, there is a new electronic scene emerging, and there are a few labels working on this. However it is difficult for new projects to grow and get known, I feel there is lack of spaces and consumption, particularly for experimental stuff.

Where and when have you heard of Bhajis Loops?

I had recently acquired a new PDA after 7 years of non contact with this devices. I have been surprised of the new possibilities: They have complete audio integration, full network connectivity, etc. So, the idea of a portable sequencer already developed seemed to me very natural, I started searching for it and found Bhajis Loops as the best.

How do you integrate Bhajis Loops in your composition process? What kind of new and interesting things does it enable you to do?

Héctor Zarate

My music is mainly inspired by moments and images I come across in my city. And Bhajis Loops allows me to capture those moments on the go. If I'm at the park by dawn and I get inspired, I can write it immediately and even listen to it. And later, that night continue working on my studio with all my tools and with the main idea almost completed.

What are your favourite features?

The sample recording feature is fabulous, if I listen something I would like to work with, I take out my PDA from my pocket and start recording. This is really portable. The MIDI export feature is also great. It allows me to continue my work on my computer and to use my favorite workstations and synthesizers.

What are your projects?

My label will soon be releasing several compilations that will include my work. I also have proposals to record my own album, but I'm still thinking about it. However these albums will be available at major record stores in Mexico and at the Konfort Online Shop for international delivering. You can check out the Discos Konfort website for upcoming events, net releases and news. I also have a personal website for other information.
